Dating Sites: are they a Scam?

Although you need to be careful of the dating sites you sign up for, dating sites in and of themselves are not scams. Yes, there are a number of fake sites out there whose goal it is to steal your money and personal information, but we’re going to outline some helpful hints to protect yourself.
First things first, pick a site you have a personal connection to. Ask around and see what best dating sites your friends are using. Ask them what they liked and disliked about the sites, and whether they have any suggestions. Take bad experiences seriously.
Checkout review sites and read some testimonials. Knowing what each site has to offer helps as well, so make sure you read up about how the site works. Also, be sure to read all of their privacy policies so you know how you’re being protected. Many review sites will have information on that for you to look over.
Does the site make you feel comfortable? Are you being pressured to provide personal information you do not feel comfortable sharing on the internet? If a dating site is prompting you for some information you’re not willing to provide then don’t use it. As well, sites that allow you to use Paypal or a secure payment network are a good bet if you’re worried about credit card fraud.
See what the experts have to say. There have been a number of documentaries and articles on dating sites, so do your research before hand. Make sure you know what kind of a site you want before signing up and paying money. Also, know the payment system, when and why you make payments. Some sites are free to sign up for but it costs to review your matches.
Mostly, remember to be smart. Use your common sense and instinct.
